Master of Strings Ch6: Don't Rock the Port

Zilo and his company had pretty much started a bar fight over Zigger bumping into an overly snooty patron. It should be said that almost any bard other than Zilo could have likely settled the disagreement peacefully, but Zilo somehow managed to be of very poor luck today.

"Now now my good sir, I'm sure we can settle this nicely." Said Zilo holding out his arms in peace.

The other table had just as many people as Zilo's and they looked much more fitting in a port town like this one.

One was a little halfling with a large hat and a longsword at his side, but he also had a rather large satchel slung around his shoulders. Two had the looks of veteran Fighters covered neck to boot in rough leather and chain mail. One of the fighters was an elf holding a scythe similar in size to May's and the other was a human with a large bastard sword and a small rounded shield.

The scruffiest looking one was a human with a cut off shirt and no weapons on him, though his knuckles looked worn down from numerous hits to bone and muscle over years of combat.

The last two looked rather out of place, one looked regal standing tall in solid gold armor and a noble air too him. The last was a fetchling with a robe, luxurious grey hair, and spectacles. The last was also the one to start the shouting at Zigger. The fetchling's attention, however, was immediately shifted over to Zilo as soon as he noticed him.

"Another fetchling!? Here! Tell me sir, have you a way back to our home?!" The man demanded. He spoke with the air of one of the upper-class, directly beneath the Umbral Dragons. The scruffy looking man motioned to the fetchling and said, "Falx, now ain't the time, let's get back to the Bonesaw and shove off."

Zilo looked at the man called Falx's welling up anger and hope in the fetchling's eyes, but then Halfling kicked Zigger as he began to get up and the short man said, "Aw, but cap'n. This lot looks like fun times."

Cruxis stepped forth and in a intimidating voice said, "Captain, you say. I met with the captains in port and didn't see any ships called, What was it? Bonesaw?"

"What's it to you?" Said the human fighter sizing up the Paladin.

"Forgive me captain, but I must know if this knave can return me home." Said the fetchling with an insulting motion toward Zilo added on.

"Don't be pointing fingers, lest you be ready to lose them." Said May in a deep ominous voice.

Zilo then noticed after May threatened the fetchling, that he looked down seemingly toward the ground, but Zilo knew of this kind of magics of his people, and before the man could continue, Zilo sucker punched him.

Suddenly there was a raucous throughout the bar and fists went flying. Zilo and Maldrek at one point during the fight were picked up by the elf with the scythe and hurled into a table, Fliping it over and resting behind it.

"Why'd you do that!?" Said Maldrek checking to see that his horn wasn't cracked.

"That man's a fetchling Shadow Caller, trained in summoning shadow monsters, best not to let him remove his shadow, or his Eidolon will become our problem then."

Before Maldrek could rebuttal, the halfling with the hat when flying overhead and bashed his head into a chair. Zilo jumped back into the fight, barely able to tell who was who. He was however able to spot the shining gold armor and ran in at it.

Zilo leaped over the falling Alaroc and upon landing haymakered the golden warrior in the temple, the man went down but spun about and out of thin air a dagger materialized and shot up at Zilo who stumbled back over an unconscious Zigger.

Zilo fell back and rolled into a firm body before looking up and seeing the human fighter readying to swing down his sword. Zilo acted fast and took out his own blade, blocking the attack before it could connect.

Zilo then looked to see the elven fighter running down Zilo's right flank toward the Paladin, and Zilo quickly flicked out his new whip and snapped it around the elf's body, then used the power of the whiplash from the elf being halted to hoist himself up and to the right of the human he was locked in combat with.

Things were looking well for Zilo, but then as he turned to face the human, all he could see was a fist coming toward his face remarkably fast, then nothing.

Blackness when suddenly.

Splash!

Zilo awoke, tied up  by his feet and upside-down looking back at the port town he was just in, and his face was wet and tasted salty.

Zilo looked too and fro to see his friends in a similar predicament next to him.

"Well, I suppose this isn't one of your ideas of a victory lap is it?" Said Zilo halfheartedly

"Sadly not my friend." Said Alaroc,

They all seemed to have been hung along the backside of a ship that was setting sail by their ankles. the Paladin looked rather cross, saying, "All I wanted was a drink and then some peace, and look where it's got me."

Zigger looks over to the paladin and says, "With how you threatened their captain be happy they left us our things."

Maldrek sighs with, "Fat lot of good that will do us, I don't have Levitate ready today, so If we want to get the crew's attention we'll need to wait till night time before they-"

Maldrek loses his train of thought as Zilo reaches into his bag and takes out his violin with the bo attached with a strap.

May sneers and says, "What good will that do you? playing upside-down while hitting the ship's back."

Zilo smiles to the group and says, "Ah that's right you've all never seen me perform for a crowd, watch." And with that Zilo drops his violin, and his friends flinch before seeing the instrument and it's bo levitate before their eyes.

"Magic Violin?" Says Alaroc quizzically before looking to Zilo who is pointing and orchestrating how the violin moves.

"Mage Hand back up musician, so that I may dance and back myself up with a song, now then." Zilo makes the Violin fly up to right off the side of the deck and begins playing a song. soon enough a member of the crew looks over the side of the ship and the group is hoisted aboard.

After explaining the situation to the captain of the Yellow Rose, Zilo offers to pay for their fare by playing music to keep the sailors working hard. They also learn that the ship is a trading ship meant to trade shipments of wood from the forest near the port with minerals from the dwarven capital, which is where the ship is heading.

"Dawrves eh? never met one yet, should be fun to learn about them." Says Zilo with a smile.

May then looks at Zilo skeptically and says, "Really? well if you think they'll tell you anything, who am I to burst your bubble."
