The Lightning Drunk Ch7: Stay Bored

Months have past since Victor went on  his massive tirade to marry off his eldest daughter. He and Jok have been out of work just kind of sitting around, with nothing new happening to them.

Jok looks over to Victor and says, "hey, you ever feel like the world just moved on without you? Like the stories of your adventures in reality only lasted like a couple weeks at most or something like that."

Victor stares back at Jok and says, "You been sippin my secret drinks?"

"You have secret drinks?"

Victor's eyes bulged in fear as he stands up and says, "You know what, we don't need a job, let's just head for a dungeon and see what we can loot."

"Think it will have anything worth while?"

Victor shrugs and just responds with "It's a dungeon."

Jok and Victor walk through the door way to see a few dozen dead bodies from the last few months.

"These guards ever gonna get cleaned, Vic?"

"Hey the bodies make the rest of the guards think twice, and dealing with them every day gets annoying. So why not keep'em around?"

"It's sorta your fault for blasting half the city."

"I see it as their fault for trying to take me in, they knew who I was, they should have had a brain."

Victor was leaning his head back but as he did he accidentally bummed into someone.

"Hey watch where your going!?" Shouted Victor looking at the person.

She looked to be around only a few years older than Lacey with bright pink hair and a charming face. her outfit looked to be some form of leather and cloak along with a various number of pockets, sheathes with knives, and other sorts of bits and bobs. She bows in response to Victor and in a light but frantic sounding voice she says,  "Oh Gods, I'm sorry I was..."

She trails off as she locks eyes on Jok.

Jok stares back at her confused as she just looks on wide eyed, Victor looks to both of them and smiles.

"You want a little bit of a bull boy in yer life lass?"

The girl suddenly blushes and Jok pats Victor for them to continue moving. As Jok moves he says, "Bit small for me, I'd break her in twain."

"Don't worry bud, We'll find someone for you one day, hopefully one without fungus."

Jok actually takes that remark in stride, he's gotten use to Victor speaking about his love life in that way.

"So Vic, where is this dungeon at?"

"Saw a cave back when we did that job hunting that run away Stone Golem."

Jok rolls his shoulder and winces, "I still have a crick in my joints from that bastard."

"Yeah, well in my experience a cave typically is full of some kind of some sort of ancient magic, sealed being that plans to end the world, or a goblin tribe."

"Hope it's not just goblins."

"Yeah' that'd boring."

Jok and Victor find their way back to a small trail made when a golem ran from his wizard. Toward the end of the trail there is a huge tree that has been broken at it's base. Jok stares at the busted tree with a dejected sigh. They both walk into the cave.

The cave did not seem to be full of goblins, but instead, Hobgoblins. Still not even a slight challenge for the two veteran Mercenaries. Victor dispatched them one at a time with a few Shocking Bolts. Meanwhile Jok was cutting down wave after wave of the goblinoids with his spectral arsenal.

Once the entire tribe lay dead, Victor begins going through what little gold they have, while Jok picks at the boar the tribe looked to be prepping for a feast.

"Well Vic, this was utterly boring."

"Hey don't be that way Jok, I think we made around 200 gold of these shits."

Jok rolls his eyes as he notices something off in the corner.

"Hey Vic, what about that door there?"

Victor and Jok look to a black obsidian door that looks to be a style entirely different from the rest of the cave. it looks like the black door depicts three beings with a grand cloak above them. the first is a black cloaked being who looks to wear grieves and gauntlets.

The second is a warrior clad in furs with a giant sword that looks able to split the skull of a dragon. The last being is a a rather well set flamboyant man with a bow slung over his back. The style the door is set looks to be rather foreboding.

Victor pats the sitting Jok on the shoulder and says, "Feel like looting it?"

Jok shrugs as Victor waltzes over to the door. He tries everything in his book of adventuring to try and open the door, to no avail. He pants and breaths heavy, exhausted from spending nearly 10 minutes trying to get the door open.

"Okay, you take a crack at it, I got nothing."

Jok stands and walks over to the door, and the door simply shifts and slides open. Victor's mouth opens looking at the door that opened up. Jok turns back to him and gives him a cocky smile, saying, "After you."

"Don't you think it is weird that you just opened the door without trying? Are you secretly the chosen one or some shit my big bull friend?"

"Nope, Just a simple Minotaur from another world."

"Well let's check it out then."

The two of them walk into an area that matches the decor of the door, the room is fully constructed of obsidian with depictions of some kind of bird like creatures doing small menial tasks much like that of hieroglyphics. The room had an ominous feel to it.

For any other group of heroes this would have scared them off or at least made them shiver, but Victor and Jok just wave the ominous atmosphere off. Toward the center of the room is a solid obsidian chest.

"You feel like trying to open this one too, Vic?"

"Why don't you try it first big guy."

Jok walks over to the chest and puts out his right hand to the top of the chest. He leans the top of the chest back, but as he looks down to peer inside a voice erupts from the doorway.

"JOK DON'T OPEN IT!"

Victor and Jok turn to see the woman from earlier today, she looks frantic.

Victor looks confused, "Huh?"

"RAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!" Shouts Jok. As he turned away from the chest a black spectral ooze stretches out of the chest and attached itself to his arm. Victor jumps to action to help the only person he would consider a friend, slamming the chest back closed, but the black ooze streches it's way along his arm.

The woman dashes forward and does a spiral flip over Jok's head flicking out a dagger.

"Dastardly Longsword!"

The woman's dagger suddenly extends and changes into a longsword and in a flick and a landing, Jok's arm getting covered in the ooze hits the ground. Panicking a little, Victor conjures up a lightning bolt and fries the arm and ooze where it lay.

The arm is cooked, but the ooze remains. The woman reaches into her bag and takes out a small odd looking ring. She points the gem on the ring at the arm and a pink light encases the ooze. Shortly thereafter the ooze melts away and off the arm.

The woman wipes her brow and looks over to Victor and Jok. Victor drinking a bit, and Jok waving through where his arm use to be. The woman looks at the missing arm and says she covers her moth.

"Um, don't worry, I think I can fix that."

Victor looks over absentmindedly as if only just now noticing that Jok's arm is gone.

"Huh, Reggie's got his work cut out for him. Oh by the way, almost forgot, not that big a deal but, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?" Shouts the man, bursting in sudden rage.

She looks shocked as her dagger reverts back into a dagger and she stows it into a sheath on her lower back before responding.

"My name is Lin, pleasure to meet you."
